We are with Norma Soraida Gonzales representative of Sori's Mar in Golfo de Santa Clara, SLRC, Sonora.

Life gave me the opportunity to live on the shore of the beach and observe year after year the spawning of the silverside fish and see how they were mistreated by people, running over them, trampling them, grabbing them by sacks and with mesh and later see them thrown into the boats.

By 2016 a CONANP worker came to the community and invited me to be part of the monitoring and surveillance of the pejerrey spawning, training us and teaching us the importance it has for the environment. Since then we have replicated that knowledge with schools, fishermen and the general population of the Gulf of Santa Clara. In the last 6 years I have been working on conservation projects focused on shorebirds and silversides, thanks to which I have learned to observe, understand and recognize the value of the environment that surrounds us.

I offer my services as a nature guide in my community. I invite you to take part in activities that may include tours for watching coastal birds (migratory and resident), ecological explanation about the reproduction (spawning) of our endemic fish, the Pejerrey, which is observed in spring (March and April), a unique spectacle that you won't want to miss, hikes, environmental education workshops mainly for children, camping area, we have a business where we offer food and beverage preparation, with dishes mainly of freshly made seafood.

Come and experience attractions around the Gulf of Santa Clara, while enjoying adventures in contact with nature. The longest route is 6 kilometers (round trip). The sites are from the beach to the Cruz de Matías around the town.

Visitors come mainly from Mexicali, San Luis Río Colorado and its valley, Ensenada and the United States from California and Arizona.

I belong to the RENATUR network, which is the Upper Gulf of California Nature Tourism Network.

The species of flora and fauna we find are mainly shorebirds such as the red sandpiper, white sandpiper, western sandpiper, curlew; in terms of waterfowl some gulls such as: ring-billed gull, ring-billed gull, yellow-legged gull, herons and terns. In the desert we have swallows, cuitlacoches, greenfinches, hummingbirds, fat bill, false desert chameleon and coyotes. Of course the silverside is one of our endemic and endangered species.

One of my greatest prides is that for the first time in 2022 a temporary fence was placed to protect the silverside during spawning, delimiting the beach area, which saved thousands of fish and hundreds of thousands of eggs, as a result of a diploma course given by PRONATURA noroeste. And it is a plan that will continue in the following years.

The flora in the area includes canutillo, choya, gobernadora, ocotillo, alfombrilla and daisies.

AlSome good practices that are suggested to visitors is not to use disposable items, here we lend them dishes. We do not feed the birds, as human food is very harmful to them.
